    Multimodal machine learning in medical screenings

    The healthcare industry, with its high demand and standards, has long been considered a crucial area for technology-based innovation. However, the medical field often relies on experience-based evaluation. Limited resources, overloading capacity, and a lack of accessibility can hinder timely medical care and diagnosis delivery. In light of these challenges, automated medical screening as a decision-making aid is highly recommended. With the increasing availability of data and the need to explore the complementary effect among modalities, multimodal machine learning has emerged as a potential area of technology. Its impact has been witnessed across a wide range of domains, prompting the question of how far machine learning can be leveraged to automate processes in even more complex and high-risk sectors. This paper delves into the realm of multimodal machine learning in the field of automated medical screening and evaluates the potential of this area of study in mental disorder detection, a highly important area of healthcare. First, we conduct a scoping review targeted at high-impact papers to highlight the trends and directions of multimodal machine learning in screening prevalent mental disorders such as depression, stress, and bipolar disorder. The review provides a comprehensive list of popular datasets and extensively studied modalities. The review also proposes an end-to-end pipeline for multimodal machine learning applications, covering essential steps from preprocessing, representation, and fusion, to modelling and evaluation. While cross-modality interaction has been considered a promising factor to leverage fusion among multimodalities, the number of existing multimodal fusion methods employing this mechanism is rather limited. This study investigates multimodal fusion in more detail through the proposal of Autofusion, an autoencoder-infused fusion technique that harnesses the cross-modality interaction among different modalities. The technique is evaluated on DementiaBank’s Pitt corpus to detect Alzheimer’s disease, leveraging the power of cross-modality interaction. Autofusion achieves a promising performance of 79.89% in accuracy, 83.85% in recall, 81.72% in precision, and 82.47% in F1. The technique consistently outperforms all unimodal methods by an average of 5.24% across all metrics. Our method consistently outperforms early fusion and late fusion. Especially against the late fusion hard-voting technique, our method outperforms by an average of 20% across all metrics. Further, empirical results show that the cross-modality interaction term enhances the model performance by 2-3% across metrics. This research highlights the promising impact of cross-modality interaction in multimodal machine learning and calls for further research to unlock its full potential

    Measuring the progress of the timeliness childhood immunization compliance in Vietnam between 2006-2014: A decomposition analysis

    Vietnam launched the national Expanded Program on Immunization in 1981. Since then, this program has contributed signi cantly to the improvement of child health and to the reduction of child mortality rate. Despite of the fact that the coverage of the national EPI keeps expanding, the number of children who complied with the recommended immunization schedule remains low. This article studies the progress of the timeliness childhood immunization compliance among children between 0-5 years of age in Vietnam from 2006 to 2014 and analyzes the socio-economic factors that account for the changes of the compliance rate during this period. The dataset is extracted from the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey in 2006 and 2014. We rst identify the socio-economic factors that impact on the vaccination compliance rate using a logistic regression model. Next, we apply the decomposition method to determine the contribution of each factor on the evolution of the timeliness childhood immunization compliance. The progress of the timeliness childhood immunization has been positive and the major contribution comes from the structure e ect (unmeasured e ect). Rural areas show a stronger improvement as of 2014. Among the socio-economic factors, mother education and birth order are the ones that have the larger in uence on the childhood immunization compliance rate. However, these factors have di erent implications in urban and rural areas. These ndings are critical to the current context of Vietnam where the government is designing a strategy focusing on the e ectiveness rather than the traditional coverage indicator

    The trend of socio-economic development, the industrialization and modernization of the country, and the industrial revolution 4.0 have led to many changes today. Breakthroughs align with the above context in the fields, especially education and training. In particular, the lecturers are one of the decisive factors for the success of education and training. In addition, science and technology have made great strides, placing strict requirements on high-quality technology and human resources. Therefore, the lecturers in general and at technologyand pedagogical universities must be developed according to the competency approach. Thus, meeting the training process's requirements creates high-quality technologyhuman resources. In recent years, the development of lecturers has been paid special attention by the technologyand pedagogical universities of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs and achieved specific results. However, there are still many things that could be improved. Limitations: The specific competency framework of the lecturers has not been developed, the faculty capacity development has not been focused, the recruitment and use of lecturers are still ineffective, the appointment of lecturers going to study to improve qualifications still has many shortcomings, there are no appropriate sanctions to manage lecturers, especially highly qualified lecturers; The examination and evaluation of lecturers are not focused, the pressure on lecturers to train themselves is not high, the screening of cadres lacks a basis. Based on the current situation of developing lecturers at the technologyand pedagogical universities of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs, the article proposes some solutions to improve the effectiveness of this work

    Examining Vietnam's Success in Controlling COVID-19 Pandemic in Terms of People's Behavior

    To deal with an unprecedented pandemic known as COVID-19, every country has developed its own policies to prevent the expansion of Coronavirus. The purpose of this study is to investigate Vietnam’s success in controlling the spread of COVID-19 epidemic from the perspective of people’s behavior. This study applied the Health Belief Model developed by Don Nutbeam and Elizabeth (2004). An online survey engine (docs.google.com/forms) and an offline survey were employed to collect data from citizens in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, Haiphong and other cities. The statistical analysis used 423 questionnaires from 450 respondents, mainly aged 18 to 35. The results demonstrated that people's awareness of COVID-19 as well as their behaviors have contributed significantly to the successful efforts to prevent and control the disease in Vietnam.     The pedagogical training management of gifted high school teachers in the region of Red River Delta based on a competency approach

    Pedagogical training for teachers is always an important issue of every education system. Teachers impart knowledge, give academic advice to students, and assist students in applying knowledge to develop society. This study investigated the gifted high school teacher pedagogical training management in the region of the Red River Delta according to the competency approach. Based on the available data, the research indicated three main things: (i) Professional pedagogical competence of gifted high school teachers; (ii) Pedagogical training activities for gifted high school teachers; (iii) Management of pedagogical training activities for gifted high school teachers. This study conducted a survey of 547 departmental and school managers in gifted high school teachers in nine provinces in Red River Delta, including Hanoi, Ha Nam, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, and Vinh Phuc. These findings are only preliminary research, and they will be an important basis for proposing management solutions to improve the effectiveness of pedagogical training activities for gifted high school teachers

    Organizational Commitment of Tour Guides

    The commitment of employees to the organization receives special attention from managers. This is because when employees are closely attached to the organization, the efficiency of work is improved, enhancing the organization’s innovation and creativity, and aiming for sustainable development. This study was conducted to demonstrate the factors influencing the commitment to the organization of tour guides. Research data was collected from a survey of 305 tour guides working in travel companies in Vietnam. Using quantitative research methods, the study has shown that the organizational commitment of tour guides is influenced by 8 factors, including job nature, work environment, training and promotion, income and benefits, leadership style, relationships with colleagues, rewards and recognition, and empowerment. Among them, empowerment is identified as the most significant factor, with the strongest influence on the organizational commitment of tour guides. Finally, the study has proposed some managerial implications to enhance the commitment to the organization of tour guides

    Layered double hydroxides as containers of inhibitors in organic coatings for corrosion protection of carbon steel

    The present work focuses on the use of layered double hydroxides (LDH) as containers for corrosion inhibitors in an epoxy coating. 2-Benzothiazolylthio-succinic acid (BTSA), used as corrosion inhibitor, was intercalated by co-precipitation in magnesium-aluminum layered double hydroxides. The obtained LDH-BTSA was characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. BTSA release from LDH-BTSA in NaCl solutions was investigated by UV-vis spectroscopy. The inhibitive action of LDH-BTSA on carbon steel corrosion was characterized by electrochemical methods and the protective properties of an epoxy coating containing LDH-BTSA were evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. It was shown that the BTSA was intercalated in the layered double hydroxide and its loading was about 33%. The BTSA release was dependent on the NaCl concentration in the electrolyte. The polarization curves obtained on the carbon steel sample showed that the LDH-BTSA is an anodic inhibitor. Its efficiency was about 90% at a concentration of 3 g/l. The impedance results showed that the incorporation of LDH-BTSA (3%) in the epoxy matrix improved the corrosion protection of the carbon steel
